Mission Statement

The mission of the Brooklyn House of Detention Community Stakeholders Group is to ensure ongoing, meaningful community involvement in the planning and decision making for the Brooklyn House of Detention (HOD.)

We believe in striking a balance between the needs of the city and the needs of surrounding neighborhoods in achieving a creative, contextual solution for the site, with no expansion of the inmate population.

  About this website

NOTE: This site best viewed with Firefox or Internet Explorer.

This website provides information on one of the most important, but little known, issues in New York City: whether to re-open the Brooklyn House of Detention.

Look around to examine the issues, review the history of the HOD, see what the community and local elected officials have had to say, find out more about the member organizations in the Community Stakeholders Group, review articles and press releases, and review the only received design proposal.

And before you go, let us know what you think. Stay in touch!
